Baby Pink Hearts

Standard

This was a commissioned baby quilt.  While I don’t consider myself a “pink” person, I had a wonderful time shopping for a variety of pink fabrics.  The background actually has the faintest of pink brush strokes in it.  The store had only 2 inches more than what I needed for the quilt so I bought it all only to have tragedy strike in the studio.  While I was pressing the fabric my iron belched burnt black residue on the fabric.  EEEEEK.  I tried spotting and washing the fabric to no avail.  Why does this only happen on white fabrics?  That is the Murphy’s Law of Quilting.  So it was back to the drawing board, literally.  I changed the pattern slightly to not put the white background fabric in the outer border but to use the light pink fabric from the center of the quilt used for the large triangles.  When it was finished, I found I actually liked my quilt top better than the photo that came with the directions.  The quilting is a pale pink variegated thread in a heart and curls pattern.  The quilt has been happily joined with its intended baby girl in California.
