Arrows & Pinwheels

Standard

I was commissioned to do this quilt by a young bride.  She brought placemats that were a wedding present by my long time quilting friend and mentor, Genette, and asked me to use the color palette in the placemats.  I did change the colors ever so slightly by replacing the darker green with the teal colors in the quilt.  Although some may call it “Artistic License”, I just fell in love with the fabric that I used in the border and had to put it in the quilt!

The quilting is an edge to edge pattern done with monofilament thread as my goal was to show case the piecework and the colors of the fabrics.  The backing is a batik fabric with all the hues of the front fabrics.  As I was working through the piecing, quilting and binding process, the bride would come by to visit her quilt.  Although the young groom knew she was having a quilt made, she kept it a surprise until it was finished.
