When I taught the Triple Technique Quilt, I didn’t realize how it would touch the heart of dog lovers! I originally designed this quilt to showcase an embroidered block to commemorate our dog, Cinder. I used strip piecing, applique and paper piecing techniques and decided this would be a fabulous quilt to teach three techniques. I hung my green, black and white quilt as a sample for the students. I had three students take the idea of making the quilt in memory of a beloved pet (two dog quilts and one cat quilt).
I had the privilege of quilting one students quilt top here at Ideal Stitches. I did a stitch in the ditch around the embroidered dogs, the chain piecing and the flying geese and then did a background stipple on the white fabric using a variegated thread in browns and blacks. I also quilted dog prints inside many of the flying geese, so be sure and enlarge the photo to see that extra detail. The center of this quilt is a photo transfer picture of her dog. What a great way to preserve the memory of one who was so special.
Debbie did a wonderful job on both of the quilts. I was truly touched when she made the Cinder quilt. She was referred to by a friend of mine as “the wonder dog”, and she was. Thank you Debbie for the wonderful memorial & being such a thoughtful wife.
