So the story continues. When the daughter came to pick up her quilt she asked if there was any of the fabric from her father’s clothes left over. What she didn’t know, was that I easily had enough for at least two more quilts. She wanted me to make another quilt as a surprise gift for her mother for Christmas. She said her mom was one who had everything she needed or wanted and was difficult to shop for and that the quilt would be PERFECT.
Thankfully for me, the prep work was already done and all I needed was to shop for fabric and make the top. I decided on a fabric with charcoal gray and black with an understated mottled pattern. It was elegant and masculine and complimented his wardrobe. I also changed the layout and the blocks are on point with a narrow border. The effect is that both quilts come from the same collection but are unique. We used the charcoal gray thread and the leaf edge to edge pattern.
The daughter was overjoyed with the quilt for her mother and couldn’t wait for the holidays. She brought her mom to meet me and I think we all shared tears. Her mom plans to hang the quilt in her foyer. I am so touched to have been a part of the process.
