This baby lattice quilt was from a quilt class I taught a few years ago. My friend was excited to make the quilt for her daughter who was expecting at the time. The daughter is an avid Alabama fan and picked the college colors for her quilt.
My friend had brought the finished blocks to a quilt retreat with high aspirations of finishing the quilt top as her grandson was already a few months old. That same weekend he came down with RSV and was hospitalized so the young granny didn’t get to work on her quilt top. As a surprise we all chipped in and sewed the blocks together and hid the finished top in her UFO box.
When she brought it to Ideal Stitches it was my privilege to quilt this for baby Charlie. I embroidered his name and embroidered two elephants (University of Alabama mascot) in the lower border. I did a border to border elephant panto in Crimson and cross hatching in the outer border. The quilt was a fabulous success.
The mom was thrilled with the quilt and we managed to get it done before he had outgrown it!
