The right thread makes all the difference.  I must of tried at least 5 different threads in the large blocks until I found the one that worked incredibly with the fabric.   I quilted violets in both the large and small squares and leafy vines in the sashings.   The quilting compliments the front of the quilt but the back is spectacular.  All the stitching stands out against the light backing.   Of course the back is my favorite!
