Retirement Tie Quilt (back)

Retirement Tie Quilt (front)
This was a huge undertaking. I was commissioned to make a tie quilt for a retired school teacher who wore a different tie every day to school. I was give 160 ties to make the quilt. I started out by having the wife separate the ties into three bags; most favorite, middle favorite and all the rest. The most favorite ties are in the center of the front, with the middle favorite in the four corners. I then took everything that was left to make the backing of 2 and 1/2 inch strips. The picture doesn’t do justice to the backing.
The quilting includes cross hatching in the red border, a ribbon fill in the background, ditchwork in the ties and borders and a computer motif in the center of the quilt for a look that is fabulous. The wife was ecstatic when she picked up the quilt. I did have some left over backing and will be making it into a throw quilt so stay tuned.
THAT IS BEAUTIFUL, DEBBIE! IF I WERE TO GIVE YOU ABOUT 100 ties, or so, can you do the same for me? maybe 60-70″ by 60-70″? how much would you charge for it (ballpark)? we are quilters ourselves. best wishes. Scott and Jeanne
