This is a quilt top from one of my students from the Underground Railroad class that I taught a few years back. What a fabulous job she did on the blocks each month. This is a Batik girl who stretched her wings to use reproduction fabrics for the class. The blue fabric for the sashing and backing set it off wonderfully. She never developed a fondness for the fabric and in fact handed me all the left overs when she brought the quilt top to be finished and said she knew she would never make another quilt using civil war fabrics. The quilting is custom and the feather work in the sashing is all free hand. She gifted this to her mother in law but did say when I returned the finished quilt that she liked it so much better with the quilting that she did think about keeping it for herself.
