Each of the gold borders has a swirl and flower design inspired by the border to border quilting design in the center, while the piano key border has a yin and yang design. The center quilting design features pagodas and fans. The quilting had to be understated on the front due to the explosion of color and prints of the Oriental fabrics, however the gold thread on the red backing makes the quilting center stage.
